KUALA LUMPUR: Anwar Ibrahim will receive a full royal pardon and be released from prison on Tuesday, his daughter Nurul Izzah told Channel News Asia today. The paperwork for the release is being arranged, the Singapore-based broadcaster said.
Anwar, 70, has been recuperating in Cheras Rehabilitation Hospital after undergoing surgery. He was due to be released on June 8 after serving a five-year jail term following a sodomy conviction.
Newly-appointed Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad had said yesterday that the ruling coalition would petition the Yang di-Pertuan Agong for a full pardon, and he would be released the same day the pardon was granted.
