PETALING JAYA: Kempas assemblyman Osman Sapian is now the first Johor menteri besar from Pakatan Harapan.
He was sworn in before the Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, at Istana Bukit Serene, Johor Bahru today.
Osman’s name had been among three submitted yesterday by Johor PH chairman Muhyiddin Yassin. The others were Parit Yaani assemblyman Aminolhuda Hassan and Simpang Jeram assemblyman Salahuddin Ayub.
The members of Osman’s executive council are expected to be sworn in before Thursday, when the fasting month is expected to begin.
Pakatan Harapan won 36 state seats out of 56 seats in the recent general election, ending the dominance of Umno and Barisan Nasional in the state where Umno was born. BN secured only 19 state seats and the remaining seat was won by PAS.
Earlier today, three assemblymen from Umno declared their intention to join PPBM. Should their applications be approved, the coalition will have 39 assemblymen, giving PH a two-third majority in the state assembly.
