Anwar pardoned, meets Agong

KUALA LUMPUR: Anwar Ibrahim has arrived at the national palace in Jalan Duta, less than 30 minutes after he walked out of a government hospital in Cheras a free man.

A statement from Istana Negara has confirmed that the Agong has pardoned the former opposition leader, lifting a ban on him from active politics following his conviction for sodomy in 2015.

Anwar is accompanied at the palace by Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Deputy Prime Minister Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali.

He is expected to address the media at his home in Bukit Segambut this afternoon.
