MUAR: PPBM president Muhyiddin Yassin today refused to comment on Umno’s contest for its top post, saying he was no longer bothered by his former party’s affairs.
“Actually, I don’t care about Umno. I don’t want to hear about them anymore. Sorry, I am not concerned as to who is contesting what,” he was quoted by Bernama.
Muhyiddin also refused to comment on Umno veteran Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah’s decision to join the presidential race this month.
“That’s his right,” he told reporters at a Hari Raya open house in his Pagoh constituency.
After nominations closed at 5pm, Umno headquarters announced a total of 612 candidates vying for positions on Umno’s Supreme Council and leadership of the Wanita and Youth wings.
Besides Razaleigh, two other candidates vying for the Umno presidency are deputy president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin.
Muhyiddin was the Umno deputy president before he was in June 2016, a year after his removal from the Cabinet and his fallout with then prime minister Najib Razak.
