Hundreds, including Najib, win top Umno division posts uncontested

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 74 Umno division chiefs out of 191 retained their posts without contest today.

They include former prime minister Najib Razak, who won uncontested as Pekan Umno chief.

Other notable Umno leaders retained as division chiefs include Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (Bagan Datuk), Mahdzir Khalid (Padang Terap), Jamil Khir Baharom (Jerai), Annuar Musa (Ketereh), Mustapa Mohamed (Jeli), Reezal Merican Naina Merican (Kepala Batas), Zambry Abd Kadir (Lumut), Noh Omar (Tanjong Karang), Razali Ibrahim (Muar), Hishammuddin Hussein (Sembrong), Azalina Othman (Pengerang) and Bung Moktar Radin (Kinabatangan).

As for Umno Youth, 85 candidates won uncontested as division Youth chiefs, as did 108 division Wanita chiefs and 126 division Puteri chiefs.

Meanwhile, as at 9.30 tonight, Mohd Shahar Abdullah is leading in the Umno Youth chief race, followed by Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki and Khairul Azwan Harun.

For the Wanita Umno chief’s post, there is a neck and neck race between Azizah Mohd Dun (4,353 votes) and Noraini Ahmad (5,135), as Umno veteran Siti Zaharah Sulaiman trails behind with 308 votes.

Meanwhile, Zahida Zarik Khan is leading the race for the Puteri Umno chief’s post, against Nor Hazreena Mohamad Hashim.

The results for the top posts of the Youth, Wanita and Puteri wings are expected to be announced by midnight.
