Results of Umno wing elections only at 5pm

KUALA LUMPUR: The final results for the divisional and national elections of Umno Wanita, Youth and Puteri will only be announced at 5pm today, party executive secretary Ab Rauf Yusoh said.

He said only 45% of election results forms had been received by Umno headquarters.

As at 12.30am, 56 divisions had not finished their meetings or sent the outcome of the elections in their respective divisions.

The divisions comprised 10 in the Federal Territory; Perlis (1); Kedah (6); Perak (6); Selangor (6); Negeri Sembilan (4); Melaka (2); Johor (1); Pahang (6); Terengganu (2); Kelantan (6); and Sabah (6).

The 191 Umno divisions held their divisional delegates conferences yesterday and conducted elections for divisional and national leaders of the three wings

Ab Rauf said that any result disseminated in the social media was unofficial and not issued by Umno headquarters.

As at 1am today, Puteri Umno vice-chief Zahida Zarik Khan appears to be ahead in the race for the top leadership of the Puteri wing with 73 votes, far ahead of her only challenger Nor Hazreena Mohamad Hashim who obtained nine votes.

In the Wanita Umno race, Parit Sulong MP Noraini Ahmad is leading with 34 votes followed closely by Azizah Mohd Dun with 32 votes.

In the Umno Youth race, Supreme Council member Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki is leading with 21 votes followed by Pahang Umno Youth chief Mohd Shahar Abdullah with 20 votes.

There are three candidates vying to be Wanita chief, nine for Umno Youth and a straight fight for the Puteri chief’s post.

Each vote represents one division.
