Asri Hamidon appointed new 1MDB chairman

PETALING JAYA: State investment fund 1MDB today announced Asri Hamidon as its new chairman effective June 25.

Asri is currently the deputy secretary-general overseeing government investment at the Treasury.

Former 1MDB chairman Irwan Serigar Abdullah, who was also Treasury secretary-general, was relieved of his duties following Pakatan Harapan’s win in the May 9 polls.

He was appointed chairman in May last year in a government shake-up of the company, which is owned by the finance ministry.

In May this year, he was removed from the Treasury and transferred to the Public Services Department for the next 30 days. His contract at the department was also shortened, to end on June 14.

In a statement, 1MDB said it had also formed a new executive committee comprising Mohammad Faiz Azmi, Rashidah Mohd Sies and Wan Mohd Fadzmi Wan Othman.

“The exco has been entrusted by the board of directors to manage the day-to-day running of the company,” it said.
