I will be Umno’s COO, says Mohamad Hasan

Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan says he will focus on the management and administrative aspects to revive the party.

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno’s new deputy president Mohamad Hasan says he will play the role of the party’s chief operating officer so that president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi can go around the country to rally the members.

In likening the party to a ship, he said members should not rely on the captain alone to steer it to its destination.

“With the ship in choppy waters now, everyone needs to come together, not just let the skipper alone to steer it.

“We have to do a post-mortem so that everybody has a role to play. Let the president go around the country to reunite members, boost their spirits and ensure no break-up.

“I’ll play the role of chief operating officer of Umno,” Bernama quoted him as saying at a joint press conference with Zahid.

Mohamad or better known as Tok Mat, was the former Negeri Sembilan menteri besar. He received 110 votes to beat Umno information chief and Ketereh MP Annuar Musa, who had 47 votes.

Mohamad said he would focus on management and administrative aspects to revive the party following the election defeat it sustained in the recent 14th general election.

He said as party president, Zahid had a bigger task at hand as he would have to travel around the country to speak to members, raise their spirits and make sure they remained strong and united.

Time to focus on re-building Umno, says Mohamad Hasan
