ALOR SETAR: The Kedah state executive council is to be reshuffled following Anak Bukit assemblyman Amiruddin Hamzah’s appointment as deputy finance minister.

Kedah Menteri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir said the replacement for Amiruddin, who is also Kubang Pasu MP, had not been decided.

“I need more time.

“I need to seek an audience with the Kedah Sultan to decide on who will be the 10th state executive councillor,” he told reporters after the Kedah state assembly sitting.

Mukhriz was asked about Amiruddin’s replacement as he now holds a federal portfolio.

PKR representatives have the most number of positions (four) in the state government, followed by PPBM (three), Amanah (two) and DAP (one).

Amiruddin was in charge of finance, state-owned companies, industry, investments and religious affairs. He was present at the state assembly today.

He, along with 22 other MPs, were sworn in at the Istana Negara on Monday as new ministers and deputy ministers in the Pakatan Harapan federal Cabinet.

Mukhriz said the reshuffle in the state Exco was also needed to streamline state portfolios with that of federal portfolios.

“In the present administration, new ministries have been formed.

“So it would be better if our Exco portfolios follow those of the ministries.”

The Kedah state assembly resumes sitting on Aug 13.
