KENINGAU: Sabah Chief Minister Mohd Shafie Apdal said the time has come for teachers in the state to increase their efforts to drive educational transformation in Sabah and in the country.
He said this was important as Malaysia was heading towards developed nation status where the economy would be driven by educational transformation.
“I want the theme ‘Teachers Drive Educational Transformation’ to be implemented by all teachers in realising the government’s objective of creating excellent, creative and innovative human capital.
Teachers must embrace this change towards making the country a developed and high-income nation in the future,” he said during the 2018 Keningau District Teachers’ Day Celebrations held here today.
Mohd Shafie said the state and federal governments, specifically the education ministry, are committed to planning and implementing the education agenda in a holistic manner.
He said teachers in the country were fortunate to be part of a very honourable profession which played a significant role and that Teachers’ Day celebrations should demonstrate appreciation for their contributions.
”We realise we would not have succeeded today without teachers… you have contributed much to all levels of society,” he said.
During the event, retired teachers Iskandar Amat from Kampung Patikang Laut, Keningau, and Justin Asok @ William from Tambunan who served as teachers for 38 and 33 years respectively were selected for the 2018 Keningau Exemplary Teacher Award.
