KUALA LUMPUR: Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has been chosen as the parliamentary opposition leader, based on the seating arrangement in the Dewan Rakyat.
Zahid, the Bagan Datuk MP, now occupies the first seat in the opposition’s front row of benches.
The selection was confirmed by Umno secretary-general Annuar Musa when met at the Dewan Rakyat today.
“The Gagasan Sejahtera (opposition grouping) agreed that the leader of the party which has the most number of seats in the Dewan Rakyat should become the opposition leader,” he said.
Umno has 51 MPs, followed by PAS with 18.
