GEORGE TOWN: Two men have been detained to assist investigations into death threats issued against Seri Delima assembly member Syerleena Abdul Rashid of DAP.
Penang police chief A Thaiveegan said a 27-year-old man was detained in Kelantan, and a 49-year-old in Gombak, Selangor, late Friday evening.
“Investigations into the case are continuing,” he told FMT.
The threats against Syerleena were found in a note in her service centre mailbox and in a posting on Facebook.
On Saturday, Syerleena lodged a police report over the Facebook posting, which labelled her a traitor to Islam and claimed there would be no sin in causing her death.
This came after a death threat was found in her service centre mailbox on July 10.
Syerleena also lodged another police report over Facebook posts claiming she would “attack Islamic institutions, especially Jakim, for the sake of DAP”.
She said this was an “old, slanderous” claim that had been making its rounds on social media again after it was used to smear her in the recent general election.
