Guan Eng coy on purported shutdown of agencies

Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng says he is not in a position to comment as the statement concerning the purported shutdown of seven agencies under his ministry was not official.

GEORGE TOWN: An official statement concerning claims that seven agencies under the finance ministry will be shut down will only be issued by Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng said he was not in a position to comment on the issue as the purported shutdown was not part of an official statement.

“If there are any official statements, let it be made by the federal government, by the prime minister.

“I cannot comment as this involves other ministries as well. It is not right for me to do so.

“That is all I can say,” he told reporters after launching a pictorial book titled “Healing Penang Hill”.

Also present was Penang Hill Corporation general manager Cheok Lay Leng and Air Itam assemblyman Joseph Ng.

Lim was asked to respond to claims that seven agencies will be shut down.
