KUBANG PASU: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) will open bids for the vehicle special registration number series “MALAYSIA 1” to “MALAYSIA 9999” to the public from Aug 1 to 15.
JPJ director-general Shaharuddin Khalid said the bids would be opened at its branches nationwide and applications could be submitted manually to the respective state directors.
“This offer starts from 10am on Aug 1 and is up to noon, Aug 15. One form is for one application only.
“Forms can be obtained for free at any state JPJ, branch or downloaded from www.jpj.gov.my.
“Applications can be submitted by hand or post.
“We had earlier planned to do something online, but the system is not ready yet,” he told a press conference here today.
Last June, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the offer would be open from July 2-16 to any individual, including ministers, except Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Mahathir would be offered a special registration number “MALAYSIA 2020”.
Meanwhile, Shaharuddin said the RTD expected the proceeds from the bid offers for this series of registration numbers to reach RM20 million.
“To date, the overall sales value for the V series was RM22.48 million followed by the F series, with RM17.55 million.
“The highest bid for both series is V1, namely, RM989,780 while F1 went for RM836,660.”
