KUALA LUMPUR: PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail has denied it was her husband’s voice in explosive audio clips being circulated on social media in which a man lashes out at the party’s deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali.

In the audio clips, a voice resembling that of de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim admitted that he was behind Rafizi Ramli’s decision to contest the party’s deputy president’s post.

“That’s why I asked Rafizi to go against Azmin, as Azmin has become a ‘barua’ (lackey) to Mahathir,” the voice in the clips said.

Wan Azizah said the voice was definitely not Anwar’s.

“That’s not true. We heard them and thought, ‘Oh God, whose work is this?’

“Its not him. I have already asked him. And also, I know for sure that’s not my husband’s voice,” she said at the Parliament building today.

Earlier, Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad had said he did not want to interfere in PKR’s internal affairs and did not want to interfere in any rivalry between Anwar and Azmin.

Anwar has announced he would be going for the president’s post in the upcoming PKR elections.

Azmin has not announced whether he would defend his deputy president’s post against vice-president Rafizi Ramli or go for the presidency.

Condolences to Shaharuddin’s family

Wan Azizah also expressed sadness over the death of Seri Setia assemblyman and state exco Prof Dr Shaharuddin Badaruddin, who died of colon cancer today.

“We feel sad over the loss because Shaharuddin was the intellectual among us.

“We send our condolences to his family.”

She said she had visited him yesterday with her husband, Anwar.

“He looked unwell but we were optimistic and feeling hopeful of his recovery.”
