PETALING JAYA: Anwar Ibrahim will officially contest for PKR’s top post, with the former deputy prime minister’s candidacy proposed by current party president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
Anwar, who had last month announced he would vie for the president’s post, submitted his form to the party’s election committee (JPP).
It was submitted by PKR strategy director Sim Tze Zin who is backing the PKR de-facto leader.
JPP secretary Ismail Yusof confirmed that they received the nomination form at 11.15am.
“So far, we have only one candidate for the presidency,” he said at the PKR headquarters here.
Anwar had on July 15 revealed he would contest for the post following discussions with the party leadership.
PKR leaders in Sabah, Kelantan and Perlis have since backed Anwar.
Wan Azizah, who is also the deputy prime minister, had previously indicated she would make way for her husband to become president.
Meanwhile, Johor Bahru MP Akmal Nasir and Kota Anggerik assemblyman Najwan Halimi submitted their nomination forms for the youth chief post.
As at 12.30, the following candidates have submitted their forms:
