PETALING JAYA: PKR Wanita Chief Zuraida Kamaruddin will contest the party’s vice-president’s post.
Speaking outside the PKR main office here, Zuraida’s political secretary Nor Hizwan Ahmad confirmed Zuraida’s candidacy but did not say who had submitted her nomination forms or seconded it.
This was done by representatives from PKR Ampang just before 4.30pm, he said, showing her nomination forms to the media. Zuraida, who is also the housing and local government minister, was not present today.
Nor Hizwan said Zuraida, who is the Ampang MP, was taking on a bigger role to give other women a chance to lead the women’s wing. Last year, Zuraida said she had given some of her responsibilities as PKR women chief to her deputy, Haniza Talha.
Zuraida will vie against 11 other vice-president candidates later this year at the PKR Congress. Haniza is gunning for the PKR women’s chief post, going up against Kuantan MP Fuziah Salleh, while Dr Daroyah Alwi and Rodziah Ismail will contest its deputy chief’s post.
Meanwhile, PKR vice-president and former Batu MP Tian Chua said that he would be defending his position in the upcoming PKR polls to ensure “stability” for the party.
Asked who his choice was for the hot position of deputy president, which is being contested by Azmin Ali and vice-president Rafizi Ramli, Tian Chua said his personal choice was that of most of the party. He did not comment further.
Tian Chua previously took Rafizi to task for having running mates in the coming party polls, disagreeing with how he had conducted himself and saying there was no need for factions in PKR.
