KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia will propose another official meeting with Singapore’s ministry of transport (MoT) on the High-Speed Rail (HSR) project.
Speaking at the Parliament lobby here today, Economic Affairs Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali said he would come up with another proposal sometime in August and would firm up the date for the formal talks.
He also clarified that he did not meet with any official from Singapore MoT, saying that “they were right (that I did not meet any Singapore officials). When I mentioned yesterday, did I say I met officials from MoT?”
Azmin said the republic’s MoT had proposed to meet before July 31 but officials from Malaysia were busy with the Parliamentary session and some domestic issues.
He believed there would be no problem for a discussion between Malaysia and Singapore on the HSR issues as well as other options.
Asked on whether the meeting would discuss the possibility of compensating Singapore, he said: “Will be discussed. I’m not in a position to share with you at the moment.
“Certainly, I will present our case to Singapore (with) the mandate given to me by the Cabinet. It is only fair for them to have this opportunity to listen to me at the official meeting.
“What’s important is, we must ensure the whole process is transparent and we must follow the rule of law and the due process,” he explained.
