KUALA LUMPUR: Opposition leader Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today saw his request not to be in the Dewan Rakyat Select Committee rejected, with speaker Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof saying this was because he did not submit a motion to object to the list.

“The name suggested was that of Azalina Othman Said,” Ariff said. “But there was no motion forwarded.”

Because of this, the names put forth by Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad remain.

Select committees are formed to look into particular issues.

The Dewan Rakyat committee comprises Ariff as chairman and Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Muhyiddin Yassin, Mohamad Sabu, Darell Leiking, Tan Kok Wai and Zahid as members.

The Dewan Rakyat also approved another motion for Ronald Kiandee to be the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairman.

The Pakatan Harapan manifesto states that the PAC, which is traditionally chaired by a member of the government, will now be headed by an opposition member.

The position was initially offered to Ahmad Zahid Hamidi but he rejected it.

It is understood that PAC will be opening its books on cases linked to 1MDB.
