KUALA LUMPUR: Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Mujahid Yusof Rawa says he would not have spoken up about the possible abuse of power and misuse of funds in the Institute of Islamic Strategic Research Malaysia (Iksim) if he didn’t have the proof.
Mujahid came under attack after his recent allegations about millions of ringgit that were unaccounted for.
Iksim had said the minister’s allegation was slanderous.
However, speaking at the Parliament lobby today, the minister insisted that he had proof of the matter and said the people involved would not admit to the wrongdoing.
It was reported that the government had halted Iksim’s operations and activities and also frozen its accounts while efforts were taken to recover the “unaccounted for” funds.
Saying he didn’t want to comment further on the matter, Mujahid said it was best to just leave it to the authorities to investigate the matter.
Mujahid previously said that of the RM7.6 million that Iksim received, only RM200,000 that was spent had records of where the money had gone.
“There was no proof what the RM7.4 million was spent on,” he said.
