Perak dismisses claim of teachers sexually abusing pupils

GERIK: The claims by several Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Tamil (SJKT) Keruh, Pengkalan Hulu, pupils that they were physically, sexually and emotionally abused by their teachers are baseless.

Education, Science, Environment and Technology Committee chairman Dr Abdul Aziz Bari said he could not accept police reports lodged by family members of some of the pupils as there was no evidence, including medical reports, to back them up.

“I was also informed that the parents did not want to cooperate with the Hulu Perak district education office when asked to do so,” he said after visiting SJKT Kerry here today.

The pupils had, among other things, claimed they were afraid of attending classes because of the alleged misconduct of some of the teachers.

Aziz said he viewed such allegations seriously and would continue monitoring the situation.

He also called on the parents of the pupils involved to see him.
