KUALA LUMPUR: Council of Eminent Persons chairman Daim Zainuddin today said that the government was aware of the whereabouts of Malaysian fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho, or Jho Low.

“We know his whereabouts. The last time he was in Macau.

“I think the government knows where he is,” he said after a press conference on the completion of the CEP’s mandate and its recommendations to the government.

The press conference was held at Menara Ilham, here.

Low’s whereabouts remain a mystery although there were reports that said he was probably in Macau.

He is among the central figures in the probe by US authorities into the scandal-plagued 1MDB sovereign fund.

Recently, Inspector-General of Police Mohamad Fuzi Harun said Chinese police were also in the dark over Low’s whereabouts.

Daim also said that there would be a limited number of buyers for the Equanimity superyacht linked to Low.

The yacht is now in the custody of Malaysian authorities.

“And the cost of maintenance is high. Jho Low can afford it because it is not his money,” Daim said.

Low has been accused of embezzling billions of dollars from 1MDB.

He has been linked to Najib Razak in the past although the former prime minister said in June that he was no longer in touch with Low.
