KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Minister Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail today reiterated that there is no plot in PKR to prevent president-elect Anwar Ibrahim from becoming the next prime minister.
Wan Azizah, who is the current PKR president, also dismissed suggestions of factions within the party.
“Hatching plots? None. It’s nonsense,” she said after performing the Aidiladha prayers at Surau Al-Falah Taman Cempaka in Pandan near here.
She had been asked whether she was aware of any plot to keep Anwar from taking over as prime minister from Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Last week, Sungai Siput MP S Kesavan who is contesting the vice-presidency in the PKR election questioned deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali’s loyalty to Anwar.
Kesavan said he was not convinced that Azmin, who will be defending his post in the election, really wanted Anwar to be the next prime minister as the economic affairs minister had never stated his support for him.
Wan Azizah also denied that PKR’s new ruling prohibiting election candidates from holding ceramahs and hosting feasts for more than 100 guests only applied to certain individuals.
“It is for all candidates; it is fair to all,” she said.
This was after a news portal reported that PKR had introduced several tight rules for its election candidates.
The 2018 PKR election is scheduled to be held between Sept 14 and Oct 13.
