Escorts not assigned to Hishammuddin after May 9, says Armed Forces
The Armed Forces says it is probing claims that 3 personnel are still serving as escorts for the former defence minister.
PETALING JAYA: The Armed Forces today said it terminated the escort services provided to former defence minister Hishammuddin Hussein immediately after the May 9 polls.
In a statement, the Armed Forces also confirmed that it was probing claims that two Navy special operations force (Pascal) officers and a commando were still serving as escorts to Hishammuddin.
The Armed Forces, it added, would take appropriate steps to ensure those in active service were not attached to individuals outside the force.
“Stern action will be taken against any of its members found to have violated the current rules and regulations,” the statement read.
The statement by the Armed Forces comes after Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu instructed his ministry to immediately investigate allegations that three Armed Forces personnel were still serving his predecessor.
He also warned action would taken if they were found to have violated existing rules.
A report in Malaysiakini had said the trio were still serving as escorts to Hishammuddin. It was also claimed that the three were drawing salaries from the Armed Forces as well as from the Sembrong MP.
However, Hishammuddin said the trio had become close to him and his family and were serving him only temporarily.
