Ex-intel chief Hasanah released but passport withheld

PUTRAJAYA: Hasanah Ab Hamid, the former intelligence head under the Prime Minister’s Department (PMD) was today released after her six-day remand period over a corruption investigation expired today.

Hasanah was detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on Aug 29 for the alleged misuse of funds meant for the May general election.

Magistrate Nik Muizzuddin Nik Muhammad allowed her to be released, but ruled that her passport should be handed over to MACC.

Her lawyer Mohd Khairul Azam Abdul Aziz said his client had informed the court that she was willing to cooperate with the MACC in the future if required.

“In fact, our client also praised the MACC’s professionalism while conducting the investigation during her remand period,” he said.
