Annuar, the ex-chairman of Mara was investigated for corruption last year after an allegation by Johor crown prince Tunku Ismail Tunku Ibrahim that a certain “Tan Sri” had forced Mara and its entities to sponsor the Kelantan football team.
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) investigated the allegations against Annuar soon after he was asked to go on leave as Mara and Pelaburan Mara Bhd chairman in January last year but concluded there was not enough evidence to charge him.
Rina, the Titiwangsa MP, said she did not want similar issues in Mara anymore.
“We will pick people of quality and calibre, someone professional who can meet our targets,” Rina said.
Rina hoped that with everyone’s support, Mara would become a symbol of success for the Malays and Bumiputeras.
Also present at the event was ex-finance minister Daim Zainuddin, who said the Malays needed to stop depending too much on the government for assistance.
“The previous government did not take care of us (Malays). They took care of themselves and their own pockets. The Malays must help themselves,” he said.
