Anwar to contest in Port Dickson?

PKR leader Anwar Ibrahim.

PETALING JAYA: PKR president-elect Anwar Ibrahim is expected to announce today that he will be contesting the parliamentary seat of Port Dickson, currently held by Danyal Balagopal Abdullah.

Party sources said the final decision was made last night.

This follows weeks of speculation over where Anwar will be contesting in his bid to enter Parliament.

Earlier reports said the PKR leader might be contesting in Sungai Petani, Alor Setar or Nibong Tebal. However, these reports were denied by the respective MPs.

Danyal, a former naval officer, won the Port Dickson seat with 36,225 votes in the May 9 polls. He beat VS Mogan from Barisan Nasional (18,515 votes) and PAS’ Mahfuz Roslan (6,594 votes).
