PETALING JAYA: The principal of a tahfiz centre who was nabbed for allegedly sodomising nine students from the school in Kepong, was charged in court on Wednesday for sex crimes against children.

Kuala Lumpur deputy police chief Zainuddin Yaacob said the suspect, in his 30s, was charged in Putrajaya Sessions Court with 11 counts under Section 14 of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.

“We urge anyone who comes across similar sexual abuse cases to come forward as soon as possible to ensure action can be taken,” he said in a statement.

Earlier today Zainuddin said the suspect was nabbed a day after the police received a report from a teacher at the centre on Sept 13.

He said the report alleged that the victims were aged between 11 and 16 years.

Police sources later revealed that all nine students were taken to the Kuala Lumpur Contingent Police Headquarters to have their statements recorded before being sent to Kuala Lumpur Hospital for further examination.

All students have since been taken home by their families.
