PETALING JAYA: PPBM is dissolving all its divisions in Negeri Sembilan, and has appointed veteran politician Rais Yatim to help reorganise the party in the state following a series of problems.
Party president Muhyiddin Yassin said the decision, which was based on a provision in its constitution, would make way for fresh appointments at the branch and division levels.
“Within the next few days, you will see the names and the list of office bearers, so that there won’t be too much of a gap,” he said, adding that it was the best way to resolve “long-standing problems”.
Muhyiddin said the party today also decided to dissolve the Ampang and Subang divisions in Selangor.
“These two divisions have got lots of problems,” he said.
“This is the process we choose to avoid problems in our party.”
The decision to dissolve the Negeri Sembilan chapter comes as Pakatan Harapan (PH) prepares for the by-election in Port Dickson, seen as PKR leader Anwar Ibrahim’s launchpad for his parliamentary comeback.
Muhyiddin at today’s press conference also said disciplinary action was taken against some PPBM leaders in the Bukit Bintang branch for abusing their positions in renting out Ramadan bazaar lots.
No to alliance with Umno
Muhyiddin meanwhile rejected an offer by Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to team up with Pakatan Harapan parties for a unity government.
“As far as PPBM is concerned, we cannot accept that. But I don’t know about other PH component parties,” he said.
“PH has won the government, we have the majority. Umno lost. People have rejected Umno because people have no more trust in the party,” he told reporters.
Muhyiddin however said his party’s membership was still open to Umno members.
“We need to evaluate whether they want to join us to serve the party and not because they are looking for positions,” he added.
