PETALING JAYA: Former Court of Appeal judge Hishamudin Yunus has been appointed as chairman of the Malaysian Competition Commission (MyCC) for a three-year term effective Sept 5.
Hishamudin, who was recently made a member of the Judicial Appointments Commission, replaces Che Mohamad Zulkifly Jusoh who came on board last year.
MyCC is an independent body under the Competition Commission Act 2010 which implements and enforces the act’s provisions to protect the competitive process for the benefit of businesses and consumers.
It is empowered to ensure compliance with the act, inquire into complaints on anti-competition conduct, perform market reviews and penalise companies seen as infringing on the competition law.
Hishamudin, who is a consultant, has served as president of the Sessions Court, deputy public prosecutor, state legal adviser, deputy parliamentary draftsman and chief registrar of the Supreme Court.
He was appointed as a judicial commissioner in 1992 and a High Court judge in 1994.
He was elevated to the Court of Appeal in 2009, where he remained until his retirement in 2015.
