KUALA LUMPUR: Umno Youth chief Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki has praised Lim Guan Eng as the “best finance minister in the world” who has managed to rebuild the country’s economy in just four months after Pakatan Harapan took over the administration.
“At first, the country was in a bankrupt state. In four months, the minister changed his statement, stating the economy is now strong.
“What magic was used to strengthen the economy in such a short time?” he asked during his policy speech at the 72nd Umno General Assembly at the Putra World Trade Centre.
He also hit out at another Pakatan Harapan leader who seemed to be too liberal to the extent that the sharing of toilets was made a national issue.
“Before, during the BN era, we raised the standards of the handicapped by giving them special toilets, but a new minister came in and easily gave the toilets to others,” he said.
Other than Lim, Asyraf also took a jibe at a Pakatan Harapan minister for indirectly exposing weaknesses in the national defence system by stating the country only has four functional fighter jets.
However, Asyraf said during the recent National Day parade, many fighter jets were shown proudly flying in the sky.
Recently, Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu had said only four out of the 28 Russian fighters jets owned by the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) were able to take to the skies.
Asyraf also slammed the Pakatan Harapan government on its conflicting stand regarding National Higher Education Fund Corporation Fund (PTPTN) debts.
“Maybe this is why the prime minister does not seem to have confidence in his own Cabinet and was forced to establish the Council of Eminent Persons,” said Asyraf.
Before the speech, Umno Supreme Council members took an oath that they were not bankrupts.
Delegates were also told not to touch on issues linked to any court cases and to show maturity during their two days’ of speeches. Cries of “Bangkit Kembali” (“Rise Again”) were heard throughout the speech.
Members from PAS and MIC were also present during the speeches while MCA was booed for not being able to attend the event, due to a “last-minute emergency”.
There was overwhelming applause when Umno Supreme Council members Ahmad Maslan and Tajuddin Abdul Rahman were asked to show their presence.
Asyraf also thanked former Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin for his contributions to the wing.
