PETALING JAYA: PKR’s Election Committee has urged Rafizi Ramli, who is contesting the deputy president’s post, to prove his claims of interference by a committee officer in the recent party polls in Labis, Johor.
Chairman Rashid Din said he would like to see the video clip that Rafizi said proved his claim that there was interference.
“If there is a video, show me, I also don’t know because I wasn’t there,” he told FMT.
In a letter sighted by FMT, Rafizi had called on the election committee to nullify the election results for the Labis division as an election committee officer had allegedly interfered in the process and helped a party member vote and instructed members on who to vote for.
He also said he would submit a report on how election committee officers from his rival Azmin Ali’s Gombak division and those aligned to him – Zuraida Kamaruddin’s Ampang division and Sivarasa Rasiah’s Subang division – were placed in certain divisions in Johor to ensure their victory.
But Rashid dismissed Rafizi’s claim that election committee officers had stood next to members to give them instructions, adding that he trusted the officers.
However, he said if Rafizi’s claims were true, he would be “very sad” and the officers “didn’t love the party and were traitors”.
Yesterday, in the Johor polls, Rafizi garnered 5,025 votes compared to Azmin’s 5,852 votes. This is despite reports saying Rafizi was more popular in the state compared to Azmin, the current PKR deputy president.
