Cops arrest uncle of boy trapped inside washing machine

A video of the rescue of the boy trapped inside the washing machine has gone viral on social media.

KUALA LUMPUR: Police arrested the uncle of a 3-year-old boy trapped inside a washing machine at a self-service laundry in Bukit Sentosa, Rawang, near here yesterday.

Hulu Selangor district police chief Lim Bak Phai said the 27-year-old man was detained at the Hulu Selangor district police headquarters at about 11pm yesterday.

“The suspect is believed to have “jokingly” put his nephew in the machine, causing the boy to be trapped for about 20 minutes.

“The victim was then rescued with the help of the public and police and he was unhurt,” he said.

Lim said the suspect was now remanded for four days until Saturday and the case was being investigated under Section 31 (1) (a) of the Child Act 2001 for abusing, neglecting, abandoning or exposing children in a manner that may cause them to experience physical or emotional injuries.

Lim said police had also recorded statements from the victim’s mother and would conduct an investigation on her under Section 182 of the Penal Code for making a false report.

“The victim’s mother had earlier lodged a report that her son was missing and suddenly he was inside the washing machine,” he said.

The incident, which took place early Tuesday morning, went viral on Facebook with a one-minute recording of a child trapped inside a washing machine and being rescued by members of the public.
