PETALING JAYA: Shahrul Aman Mohd Saari has quit as acting chairman of Bersih 2.0 from next Monday.

Shahrul has been called to serve as press secretary to Education Minister Maszlee Malik.

The steering committee of the electoral reform group will hold a meeting on Nov 10 to elect a new chairperson and steering committee.

In the meantime, all matters will be referred to the executive director, Yap Swee Seng, as the caretaker.

Bersih thanked Shahrul for his past services and help in the struggle for democracy and clean and fair elections.

It congratulated him on his new appointment.

Shahrul took over duties in March this year from Maria Chin Abdullah, who resigned to contest as Petaling Jaya MP in the May 9 general election. He had been her deputy before that.
