PAS candidate turns to durian to woo tourists to Port Dickson

PAS candidate Mohd Nazari Mokhtar says he will make sure undeveloped areas will be planted with Musang King durian trees.

PORT DICKSON: The PAS candidate for the Port Dickson by-election Mohd Nazari Mokhtar wants to turn the constituency into a leading Musang King durian hub in Asia if he wins the polls on Oct 13.

The politician, who is a Musang King entrepreneur in Kulai, Johor, wants to make the king of fruits a new tourism icon for Port Dickson.

The Royal Malaysian Air Force (TUDM) retiree said it would also help spur the local economy.

“Here in Port Dickson, there are still large areas which are undeveloped and if given the mandate by the voters here, I will ensure it will be planted with Musang King durian trees.

“We can create new tourism packages to cover holidays at the beach and visits to orchards of the Musang King durian, which tourists from China, South Korea, Taiwan and Hong Kong have grown to love,” he told Bernama.

Apart from Nazari, others vying to be Port Dickson’s MP in a seven-cornered fight include PKR president-elect Anwar Ibrahim, former Negeri Sembilan menteri besar Isa Samad and Anwar’s former personal assistant, Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan.

The by-election is being held after its incumbent Danyal Balagopal Abdullah, 68, vacated the seat on Sept 12 to pave the way for Anwar’s attempt to return to Parliament.

The Election Commission has set polling day on Oct 13 while early voting is on Oct 9.
