Boy inside washing machine incident: Unemployed man charged

Customers coming to the rescue of the boy when there was difficulty opening the washing machine’s door.

KUALA KUBU BHARU: An unemployed man who allegedly put his three-year-old nephew in a washing machine at a self-service laundrette in Bukit Sentosa, Rawang, here last week, was charged at the Kuala Kubu Bharu Magistrate’s Court here today.

Muhammad Irwan Abdul Jalil, 27, was charged with recklessly endangering the safety of the boy when he put him into a washing machine on Oct 12

If convicted, he could be jailed up to three months or fined up to RM500, or both.

Irwan claimed trial.

The court, however, disallowed bail on account none of his family members was present in court to act as bailors and set Nov 9 for re-mention.

Deputy public prosecutor Khairulazhwa Yusrie Mohamad appeared for the prosecution while the accused was unrepresented.

A video of the incident went viral on social media.

The clip, which lasted a minute, showed other customers coming to the rescue of the boy when there was difficulty opening the washing machine’s door.

Police arrested the accused the next day.
