PORT DICKSON: Independent candidate Isa Samad has urged the people not to be fooled by Negeri Sembilan PPBM chairman Rais Yatim.
Isa was responding to Rais’s accusations saying that he did not do much for the people of Negeri Sembilan during his 22 years in office as menteri besar.
“We all know him (Rais) well. His views on things are not consistent. Rais, don’t fool the people of Negeri Sembilan. Everyone knows you well.
“I have done a lot for the people, particularly in Port Dickson, and am ready to do more.
“Rais’s views do not count; he goes where it is beneficial for him,” Isa said during a walkabout at the Old Town in Taman Segar here today.
Rais left Umno after the last general election after Barisan Nasional lost control of the federal government.
In June, he joined PPBM and was recently made the Negeri Sembilan PPBM chief.
“Rais only served as menteri besar for three years and eight months (until 1982). He didn’t do much,” he said.
Rais, who is campaigning for PKR’s Anwar Ibrahim has questioned Isa’s motive in running for the seat, indicating that Isa had been in power for 22 years, from 1982 to 2004.
He asked Isa why for 22 years as a menteri besar he did not do the things he is only hoping to do now.
The Port Dickson by-election was called after its incumbent, Danyal Balagopal Abdullah, stepped down to make way for Anwar’s return to Parliament.
The Oct 13 polls will see a seven-cornered fight.
