Maszlee: We’re still discussing what colour socks students should wear

Currently, most students wear white socks with their white shoes.

PETALING JAYA: The colour of socks for students will be decided after discussions with stakeholders are completed, says Education Minister Maszlee Malik.

“The ministry will issue an official statement after reaching an agreement with the relevant parties,” he said after visiting the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (PPUM) here today.

Yesterday, Bumiputera Retailers Organisation vice-president Ameer Ali Mydin urged the ministry to clarify whether the white socks currently worn by schoolchildren would be replaced with black, in line with the implementation of the black shoe policy.

On Saturday, the education ministry in a statement said the adoption of black shoes in government and government-aided schools would be fully enforced in 2021.
