KUALA LUMPUR: A war of words erupted in the Dewan Rakyat today between Damansara MP Tony Pua and Kinabatangan MP Bung Moktar Radin concerning the prices of goods after the implementation of the sales and services tax (SST).
Pua (PH-Damansara) accused Bung of twisting his statement that prices of goods dropped after SST was implemented.
But Pua, referring to studies done by the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry, insisted that prices were lower now compared to when the goods and services tax (GST) was in force.
Bung had earlier stood up and asked about a video that had gone viral on social media, in which Pua said prices of goods had gone down due to the implementation of SST.
Johari Abdul (PH-Sungai Petani) then suggested that it was possible some MPs did not go down to the ground.
“The prices of goods have gone down. You would know this, unless you only go to London, or you go to hotels,” he told Bung.
“This is because you do not live like the rest of us, who go to the market everyday,” he said.
Bung then invited Johari to go to the market together.
“I always go to the pasar, even when I am overseas. I do not go to the supermarkets. Damansara is the one who goes to supermarkets,” he said, referring to Pua.
