KUALA LUMPUR: A man known as “Boy Tiger” pleaded guilty in the Ampang Sessions Court here today to two counts of abusing his stepson between August 2017 and November this year.
The 31-year-old man was charged with abusing the three-year-old toddler at Lorong Permai 2, Kampung Indah Permai, and at a house in Taman Ampang Saujana, Jalan Persiaran Saujana, here, during that period.
The charge, under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, carries a fine of not more than RM50,000 or a maximum jail term of 20 years, if convicted.
“Yes, I plead guilty to the two charges, but I call on the court to send me for treatment at Hospital Bahagia as I have been suffering from schizophrenia since I was little.
“I have a patient card from the Ampang Hospital and I am still on prescribed medicines. I had once undergone mental health treatment at Hospital Bahagia in Ulu Kinta,” he said.
Judge Azrul Darus agreed and ordered the man to be sent to the hospital in Perak to undergo mental health examination for 30 days, as provided under Section 342 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
The court also set Dec 21 for re-mention and to get the accused’s medical report and mental health status before deciding whether or not the man could be held responsible for the offence.
Deputy public prosecutor Ng Wee Li prosecuted, while the man was not represented.
Present at the court were the man’s wife and family members.
Meanwhile, at the Magistrate’s Court, “Boy Tiger” was also charged with causing the death of his stepson at 11am in a house on Jalan Bukit Indah 5, Taman Bukit Indah, Ampang, here, on Nov 8.
However, no plea was recorded.
“Boy Tiger”, who was clad in a black T-shirt and a pair of jeans, nodded when the charge under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the mandatory death penalty, was read to him before Magistrate Muhamad Firdaus Sadina Ali.
Re-mention was set for Dec 21, pending chemistry and medical reports.
On Nov 9, it was reported that the toddler, believed to have been abused, was pronounced dead 30 minutes after he was taken to the Ampang Hospital by his mother and stepfather after he fell unconscious at home.
Boy Tiger’s wife, who was also arrested in connection with the case, was released after being remanded twice to facilitate investigations.
