PETALING JAYA:
Former prime minister Najib Razak today said Malaysians could compare and evaluate for themselves the prices of goods under the now-abolished goods and services tax (GST) and the sales and services tax (SST).

Najib said it had been six months since the GST was abolished and three months since the SST came into force.

“Of course the rakyat can evaluate and realise for themselves that GST was not the main reason for the rising prices of goods.

“Today, the prices of goods are still going up with SST and they are expected to continue to go up in the coming month,” he said in a Facebook post.

The Pekan MP went on to point out that with GST, the government’s revenue went up, tax evasion decreased, the government’s deficit was reduced, aid to the people increased each year, the government’s assets increased, and the economy became stronger.

However, under the SST, Najib said, the government revenue went down, tax evasion went up, government deficits went up, aid to the people was reduced to the point of being scrapped, Petronas was “looted”, many government assets were sold, and the economy was on a downturn.

“Before this, many were influenced by PH’s nasty propaganda of hate and blame towards GST and the Barisan Nasional government.

“It is hard to blame them because at that time, PH’s lies and propaganda were too strong and there was no opportunity for people to draw comparisons.

“After GST is abolished, and SST implemented, we can compare and see for ourselves,” he added.
