In a statement early today, Waytha said Adib, 24, was a brave fireman who had served his nation with full dedication.
He added that the police were working hard to ensure the culprits would be brought to justice.
“I wish to offer my deepest condolences to Adib’s family… I share their grief, and the whole nation mourns with this family in this tough time,” he said.
Adib was pronounced dead at 9.41pm at the National Heart Institute where he had been warded for treatment.
He suffered serious injuries in the riot at the Sri Maha Mariamman temple in USJ 25 on Nov 27 during an operation to put out a fire near the premises.

“My deepest condolences to the family of Adib and to all firemen.
“May we all find strength together during this difficult time,” he said in a posting on his Twitter account.
