Pastor charged with sexually assaulting 24-year-old

BUTTERWORTH: The pastor of a church here was charged at the Sessions Court today with sexually assaulting a 24-year-old woman.

Ooi Kean Lye, 59, was charged under Section 377CA with inserting his finger into the woman’s private part without consent at his apartment on Dec 1 at 2 pm.

If convicted, he faces a maximum 30 years’ in jail, and whipping.

Ooi pleaded not guilty to the charge read out to him before Justice Noor Aini Yusof.

Noor Aini then set Jan 29 for case management and allowed bail of RM15,000.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nazratul Natrah Mohd Yusof prosecuted while Mohd Izad Buqhary Mohd Kamri represented Ooi.

It was earlier reported that the victim had gone to the pastor’s home (earlier reported as “priest” by the media) to seek treatment for joint problems. The pastor apparently offered massage and therapy services at home and was recommended by her friend, who is the pastor’s adoptive child.

Police arrested the pastor on Dec 18.
