12 ministries get new secretaries-general

Chief Secretary to the Government Ismail Bakar says most of the posts are being filled up following job vacancies due to mandatory retirement and expiry of service contracts.

KUALA LUMPUR: Twelve ministries are getting new secretaries-general, said Chief Secretary to the Government Ismail Bakar.

In a statement today, he said all of them received their letters of appointment from him yesterday.

“The posts are being filled up following job vacancies, due to mandatory retirement and expiry of service contracts, as well as taking into consideration the need to implement a rotation of posts among the existing secretaries-general,” he said.

“I believe the filling of the posts will strengthen further the top management line-up at the ministry level in implementing the tasks and responsibilities entrusted in an effective manner and provide the best services to the people and country.”

Those appointed include Saripuddin Kasim as secretary-general of the federal territories ministry (previous post: secretary-general of transport ministry), and Mohd Khairul Adib Abd Rahman as secretary-general of the transport ministry (previous post: deputy secretary-general of policy in transport ministry).

Alwi Ibrahim has been appointed secretary-general of the works ministry (previous post: secretary-general of home ministry), while Mohd Gazali Abas was appointed secretary-general of the home ministry (previous post: secretary-general of the education ministry).

Syed Omar Sharifuddin Syed Ikhsan is the new secretary-general of the education ministry (previous post: Perlis state secretary), and Muhammad Shahrul Ikram Yaakob is secretary-general of the foreign affairs ministry (previous post: Malaysian permanent representative to the United Nations in New York).

Muez Abdul Aziz is secretary-general of the domestic trade and consumer affairs ministry (previous post: deputy secretary-general of the domestic trade and consumer affairs ministry); and Tan Yew Chong is secretary-general of the primary industries ministry (previous post: secretary-general of the water, land and natural resources ministry).

Zurinah Pawanteh is secretary-general of the water, land and natural resources ministry (previous post: secretary-general of the primary industries ministry), while Isham Ishak is secretary-general of the tourism, arts and culture ministry (previous post: secretary-general of the international trade and industry ministry).

Lokman Hakim Ali is secretary-general of the international trade and industry ministry (previous post: secretary-general of the youth and sports ministry), and Waitchalla RRV Suppiah is secretary-general of the youth and sports ministry (previous post: deputy secretary-general of operations in women, family and community development ministry).
