AMPANG: The health ministry has already started collaborating with private hospitals to address the issue of getting enough expertise to treat chronic diseases.

Health Minister Dzulkefly Ahmad said some private hospitals had approached them a month ago and shown their willingness to work together with the government in this matter.

The health ministry has set up a health advisory council to work out the details.

“We are looking at how we can increase cooperation between the government and private sector,” he said after visiting Hospital Ampang today.

“We welcome this offer to work with us. We hope we will be able to overcome problems we are facing and ease the workload.

“Such collaboration can also help cancer patients.”

He met some patients and the staff there during his one-hour visit to the Ampang Hospital, a government hospital.

Dzulkefly said the government can make use of the better facilities found at private hospitals.

The same goes for the private specialists as well, he added.

“I am hoping we can roll out this programme with the private sector this year.”
