Marzuki’s election petition remains despite rival’s entry into PPBM

PUTRAJAYA: PPBM secretary-general Marzuki Yahya said he would not withdraw his election petition against Tasek Gelugor MP Shabudin Yahaya, despite the latter’s acceptance as a PPBM member today.

“We will go ahead (with the petition). We leave it to the courts to decide,” he said.

The election court will hear his petition on Feb 25.

Marzuki is seeking a recount of votes in Tasek Gelugor, Penang, where he lost by 81 votes to Shabudin in the May 9 general election last year.

Marzuki received 18,466 votes, while Shabudin garnered 18,547, followed by PAS’ Rizal Hafiz Ruslan who received 14,891.

Shabudin was among seven former Umno MPs whose membership application to PPBM was accepted today.
