KAJANG: A Barisan Nasional supporter collapsed and died outside the nomination centre for the Semenyih by-election here today.
Kajang police chief Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yussof confirmed the incident.
He told reporters outside the Dewan Seri Cempaka that he is waiting for more details.
Based on the information he had received, the victim died after having breathing difficulties.
The man was later identified as Mamat Awang, 59, from Kuala Terengganu.
The body has been sent to the Kajang Hospital for a post-mortem.
The BN candidate for the Semenyih by-election, Zakaria Hanafi, from Umno, is currently there with members of the press and supporters.
Four candidates are taking part in the Semenyih by-election, the sixth since the May 9 general election.
These are PPBM’s Aiman Zainali, 30, Zakaria, 58, PSM’s Nik Aziz Afiq Abdul, 25, and independent candidate Kuan Chee Heng, 56, better known as the “10 sen man”.
The case has since been classified as sudden death.
