KUALA LUMPUR: The Proton-Geely partnership has propelled sales of the national car after a long period of declining sales, say Proton dealers.
“The X70 has proven to be a best-seller and is one of Proton’s best performers so far,” said Mohammad Hafidz SH, the information technology, networking and media marketing manager for a Proton dealer here.
Proton registered total sales of 7,007 units in January 2019, with the new X70 sports utility vehicle (SUV) instrumental in the marked increase in sales.
Hafidz said Proton dealers who had upgraded their service centres to 3S and 4S were now reaping a multitude of benefits, including high sales of the X70.
He also said the SUV had boosted Proton’s branding and that customer perception of the national car manufacturer had also improved.
“Proton is now expanding its Tanjung Malim plant to produce the X70 in Malaysia, for both the local and Asean markets. This provides us with the potential to also expand into the region,” said Hafidz in an interview, excerpts of which were released in a statement here today.
The Proton-Geely partnership, which led to joint venture agreements between Chinese and local automotive vendors, has opened the doors for Malaysians to penetrate China — the world’s biggest auto market.
Service manager Neoh Eu Gene said an added advantage for X70 buyers was the confidence that came from being able to service or repair their vehicles at the 3S and 4S centres.
3S centres offer sales, service and spare parts while 4S centres offer sales, service, spare parts and body and paint services.
Besides displaying upcoming models, the new and spacious 3S and 4S services centres are operating as one-stop centres — from the time the car is sold and throughout the lifetime of its maintenance.
Proton to-date has 74 3S and 4S centres throughout the country conforming to the company’s new standards and corporate image.
