Cops find no case in Papagomo probe

Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris or Papagomo has denied physically attacking Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.

SHAH ALAM: Police have concluded that Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris is innocent, following an investigation into the Umno blogger who was accused of assaulting Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.

Deputy Inspector-General of Police Noor Rashid Ibrahim said Azri, better known as Papagomo, did not commit any serious offence.

“I looked at the accusations and I find that it was not to an extent where a fight happened.

“It was a misunderstanding and there was some ‘pushing’ around,” Noor Rashid told reporters.

He said Papagomo, who is being held in remand for three days to assist in police investigations, should be released with bail in due time.

Syed Saddiq lodged a police report claiming that he was assaulted and intimidated by Papagomo and other opposition supporters during the nomination for the Semenyih by-election in Kajang on Saturday.

Papagomo was arrested in his house in Setapak on Sunday. He denied assaulting the Muar MP and threatened to sue him for defamation.
