Woman tells minister how banks rejected her home loan 15 times over

SEMENYIH: A woman who gatecrashed a press conference at the launch of FundMyHome-DepositKu Scheme yesterday to highlight her failure to get a housing loan got the attention of Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin.

Hafiza Abdul Rahman, 34, said she had applied for a housing loan 15 times over the last 10 years.

“The house we want to buy is below RM100,000 and we can deposit up to RM20,000.

“Why am I and my husband treated like this. We are just ordinary people who want to have their own home. All this time we have only been renting,” she told reporters after the press conference.

The mother of four was later seen being consoled by Zuraida.

Hafiza said her husband’s income was RM3,000 a month, and as such their right under the B40 category was denied.

She welcomed the government’s FundMyHome and FundMyHome-DepositKu schemes, saying she would submit her application in the near future.

FundMyHome was launched by Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad in November last year to assist first time home buyers.
